Reclining Buddha

Hand carved by Indonesian Master Craftsman from one solid piece of swanwood . The indigenous belief is that a “spirit” resides in the wood and the artist by his carving brings the spirit of the wood to the eyes of everyone, when before only he could connect with it. The Master Craftsman is not only an artist but the spiritual teacher to his students. The students start off by small carvings of animals and only after years of their practice will they be able to connect with the “spirit” of the Buddha.
